Kabichandra Kalicharan Pattnaik, an iconic cultural personality of Odisha during the early 19th century, contributed immensely for the growth and development of the Odissi dance, music, poetry and the Odia theatre. His contributions even extend to the development of early Odia cinema. His music compositions in various traditional ragas are widely sung in the field of Odissi music and dance. In Odia drama, which majorly focused a few categories like mythology, he crafted a new trend with his dramas on socially relevant topics.
This play is an outline of the life sketch of Kabichandra Kalicharan Pattnaik, his ideals and contributions to literature, music, dance and drama. In spite of facing setbacks in life, he made significant contributions in developing the professional theatre of Odisha. By forming an enterprise ‘Odisha Theatres’, he tried to groom the artists under his guidance, but many left him for other popular forms leaving him alone in his journey. The play portrays the struggle of a lonely hero, and his unwavering determination and artistic vision which eventually left an incredible mark on Odia Culture.
